Practicing : what the student learns in the lesson must be reinforced at home through consistent and thoughtful daily practice. It is expected that the student will practice a minimum of the length of their lesson three times a week. Parents are responsible for ensuring that good practice habits are developed and encouraged by providing a quiet, non-distracting practice space and an encouraging attitude. A music stand, adequate light, pencil, metronome, tuner and access to recordings are standard equipment.
Instrument: it is the parent's responsibility to make sure the student has a quality instrument in good condition and of the correct size. We are happy to recommend our favorite local luthiers who will provide good instruments to rent or own.
Learning styles: Students learn in different ways, and we welcome all students who desire to learn. It is helpful for us to know about a particular learning challenge or neurodivergent path to learning that your child may have before we begin lessons. If you would like to share, we welcome it.
Tuition is due monthly on the first day of the month if paying electronically and no later than the first lesson of each month if paying by check. Tuition is $180/$220/$260 per month for 30-/45-/60- minute lessons once a week. Tuition covers 36 lessons during the school year -- 4 per month September-May and includes one lesson in June. Lessons are offered throughout the summer on selected weeks.
Missed lessons: there are no refunds for missed lessons. Makeups for ANY reason (including weather) will be given with the limit of two per year (one each semester) and only if 24 hours' notice is given and the makeup is requested by the student. The lesson must be made up during the month in which it was missed - no credits forward. Lessons missed by the teacher will be made up as soon as possible . Lessons may be rescheduled to Zoom format if it is not possible to physically get to the lesson; these are not considered makeups if they take place at the same time as the original lesson.
Recitals and playing classes are considered an integral part of the learning process and attendance is expected. There is an additional accompanist fee for recitals and some playing classes.
Stopping lessons: if it becomes necessary to stop lessons, please give a minimum of one month's notice.
